perhaps i should've started the video a little sooner

so i'm not just playing with a giant bowl of meat the whole time, but alas. here we are...

In the midst of chopping onions, I decided I would hop on Substack and record myself in the kitchen. A simple video of me in my kitchen. It reminded me of Miranda July (a human I love) and all those videos she creates of her chatting, showing off outfits, doing a dance. Cooking is my form of dance, and so here I am, in my space, prepping a meal for my family.

I thought a video would be a good way for me to practice for all the upcoming classes and demos I’ll be leading over the next several months. I’m excited by the idea of doing them, but also slightly intimidated by the whole process. I don’t really see myself as a teacher. I cook because I enjoy it and it’s a very meditative and natural process for me, so teaching seems…challenging to me. But I also think it’ll allow me to tap into a new stage of my cooking practice, which is nice to think about.

I also hope that this outlet will give me some new ways to play. I would love to be more interactive online, but the thought of shooting and editing videos sounds horrid to me. A funny thing to say as it used to be one of my favorite things to do back in the day, but now I want to not sit at my computer ever. So perhaps these very casual, very behind the scenes videos are the solution. Maybe one day I’ll run through a recipe, but for now. Let this be an intro. A hello. How do you do?
